While Eike can travel to whenever and wherever he wishes, there are times when he will be transported to another time against his will.

Each time period has a unique color scheme. Time periods include a present time setting, medieval times, and various decades from the 21st century. To make progress and complete each chapter, the hero will have to talk with various townsfolk in various European eras, gather information, collect items, and solve puzzles, rather than killing traditional monsters or enemies. In each of these chapters, the main character dies in various ways, such as being stabbed in the back or getting run over by a car. The action takes place through ten chapters there are eight main chapters, a prologue, and an epilogue. Failure to prevent his death with in this time frame will result in Eike's demise he is then resurrected and receives hints from Homunculus on avoiding his repeated fate. In this third-person adventure, one must control the doomed Eike Kusch while solving riddles and puzzles within various time frames. With an ominous, dark atmosphere and theme, Shadow of Destiny is the first adventure game to hit the PlayStation 2 it was designed by Junko Kawano, the mastermind behind Silent Hill. To prevent his murder, he must switch between the past and present and do whatever it takes to remove himself from the black shadow of his own destiny. Using this device, Eike must travel back in time to alter his tragic end and prevent the killer from murdering other people.Īfter the encounter with Homunculus, Eike Kusch comes to in a familiar coffee shop, a mere half-hour before his death. The unknown creature bestows upon him a Digipad. Homunculus explains that Eike has been murdered and grants him another chance at life.for a small price. The murder victim awakes in darkness after the brutal assault, encountering an ominous being known as Homunculus. Kusch must now solve the riddles behind his own demise. Overall, an okay game with a somewhat interesting story that gets very repetitive when played multiple times.Menus and gameplay are in Multi-5 (English, French, German, Italian & Spanish) voices in English.Įike Kusch has been murdered in a violent fashion at the hands of an unknown assailant. The two endings I got were not all that great, I suspect there is a good one in the mix, I just did not have the patients to keep playing again and again. Some of the death scenes are interesting, but some are bad as one has a vase falling and striking you from a distance and this occurs even if you are nowhere near a tall building. As for the game, it looks rather good for an early game on the playstation 2 and the game play consists mainly of running around town and talking to folks and getting certain items in your inventory that may save the character's life or perhaps doing something to change things that may save your life. Suffice to say I was only able to get two endings then I was kind of bored with the game.

It is fun on the first play through or two, but to get all the endings you must do the same things quite often, with only slight differences to change up the pace, most of the main points of the story are exactly the same every time you play. Finding out ways to survive the present day and trying to uncover the clues as to why Eike is fated this day make up the majority of the game play.

He is given the power to time travel by this strange person known as homunculus, he is given this power because the fates have decided that Eike (the protagonist) is strongly fated to die this day.

Granted you do wander the small town and talk to people and such, but you must also watch numerous scenes of the protagonist talking to others trying to figure out what time he is in and what he can do to prevent himself from dying in the present.
#Shadow of memories metacritic movie
I would say it is more of an interactive movie than a game per se. This game is a time traveling type game that progresses more like a choose your own adventure book rather than a game.
